Before the age of 18, Pilar Leyva had given over 600 concerts in New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Ecuador, Spain, Uruguay, Prague, Moscow, and nationwide Colombia, and had been guest soloist with several orchestras including the New York Orchestral Society, New York and New Jersey local Orchestras, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá and the National Symphony of Colombia. Her technical and musical maturity was impressive.
Due to the overwhelming accomplishments as a child prodigy, and twelve years of intensive private study with Claudio Arrau (Douglaston, NY) and assistant professor Josefina Megret, (New York, NY) she has developed a fascinating career as a teacher, clinician-lecturer succeeding in different venues while being responsible of an array of recognized national and international prize winning students. Fifty years of piano teaching experience and research with students from beginner to professional levels.
Miss Leyva is a tireless entrepreneur and creator, co-creator, founding member and director of several music non profit organizations that promote and disseminates preparatory music programs for children and youth and two higher education highly recognized undergraduate music performance programs in Colombia. Miss Leyva is also director of an ongoing research project in health related biomechanical issues of pianists and students as of a successful and innovative preventive perspective.
Pilar Leyva is presently the Director of InterInstitutional Relations and teacher at the School of Music - Corpas University, Founder member and Executive Secretary of Unimusica , Board member of Atempo Bogotá International Festival, founder member and active pianist with the Chamber Music Society of Bogotá.
